The European Cybersecurity Competence Centre Governing Board and its Network of National Coordination Centres met in Munich, Germany

On 9-11 October, the ECCC Governing Board held its 10th meeting and a networking day of the National Coordination Centres (NCCs) in Munich, Germany. This is the first board meeting that took place following the achievement of the Centre's autonomy.

The NCCs network meeting discussed the functioning of the network, and shared best practices related to their activities, such as community outreach and registration,  financial support to third parties (FSTP) schemes  and the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) project implementation. 

In addition, the network also re-elected its chair Lauri Tankler from NCC Estonia and elected deputy chairs Daði Gunnarsson from the NCC Iceland and Rossana Pollio from NCC Luxembourg. 

The ECCC Governing Board discussed the ongoing and future implementation of cybersecurity projects co-funded by the ECCC, the advanced draft DEP Work Programme for 2025-2027 and adopted decisions on ECCC internal governance, including the Security rules for protecting sensitive non-classified and EU classified information. 

Thomas Caspers, ECCC Governing Board Representative and Director of the General Technology Strategy department at the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) in Germany said: “We are delighted we welcomed all our European colleagues and Governing board members in Germany. Over the last two days, we had fruitful discussions on how we can accelerate European research and development in cybersecurity. Important topics were the financial autonomy of the ECCC, building the NCC Network and how the upcoming two years of the Digital Europe funding programme will be set out. This is meaningful to us as we want to bring forward digitalisation ‘Made in Europe’ that helps to secure our industries and governments as well as the general public.” 

Christiane Kirketerp de Viron, European Commission Acting Director for Digital Society, Trust and Cybersecurity, highlighted: “I warmly congratulate the European Cybersecurity Competence Center for its autonomy. By bringing together top experts and resources from across the EU, the Centre helps to pool our resources, expertise, and knowledge to create a secure and more resilient digital future for all Europeans.”

Luca Tagliaretti, ECCC Executive Director, said: “My team and I are extremely grateful to our German colleagues for hosting the NCC Network Day and Governing Board meeting. The ECCC has achieved two important milestones recently: its financial autonomy and the signature of the Headquarters Agreement with the Romanian Authorities. Looking ahead, the Centre has all the necessary elements to become an essential player for strengthening the European cybersecurity ecosystem.”  

The NCCs Network Day and Governing Board meeting were hosted by and jointly organised with the National Coordination Centre for Cybersecurity - Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) of Germany.
