ECCO Knowledge-Sharing Webinar Series: November 2024

The European Cybersecurity Community project (ECCO), in support of the European Cybersecurity Competence Centre (ECCC), held six webinars on critical cybersecurity topics during the month of November 2024.

Knowledge-Sharing Webinars of November

These sessions covered crucial topics, including aligning educational curricula with market needs, tackling cloud and edge security challenges, enhancing supply chain resilience, empowering users with self-sovereign identity, advancing supply chain cybersecurity in space, and addressing regulatory initiatives of supply chain security.

The ECCO project Community Groups, in support of the ECCC, organised six knowledge-sharing webinars during November 2024, leveraging resources across various cybersecurity sectors. The six established ECCO Community Groups cover various topics: from skills development, support for start-ups and SMEs, human factors in cybersecurity, to synergies between civilian and space applications, cybersecurity road-mapping, and supply chain trust. They aim to involve National Cybersecurity Centres (NCCs) and engage the wider European cybersecurity community in capacity-building dialogues. The goal is to share knowledge and expertise on key cybersecurity topics relevant to Europe, aligning with the ECCC's strategic agenda. The following sections provide an overview of each webinar.

Educational Curricula Alignment to Market Needs, 6 November 2024

This webinar, organised by the ECCO Community Group on Skills, focused on the alignment of educational curricula with the evolving market needs, specifically focusing on bridging the gap between academic programs and industry demands in the cybersecurity sector. The session explored how educational institutions are adapting their curricula to better equip students with the skills required for the growing cybersecurity job market. It also examined the challenges faced by tertiary education in providing practical, hands-on experience to students, ensuring they are better prepared for the real-world applications of their studies in the cybersecurity field.

Cloud / Edge Security Challenges, 12 November 2024

This webinar, organised by the ECCO Community Group on Roadmapping, addressed the key cybersecurity challenges within the European Computing Continuum, as outlined in Mario Draghi’s recent report on European competitiveness. The report highlighted critical issues such as supply chain compromises, privacy loss, the rise of AI-driven cyber threats, dependence on external technologies, and hybrid threats that combine cyber and physical risks. These challenges underscored the need for a coordinated effort between industry and research to strengthen the resilience and security of Europe’s digital infrastructure. The webinar explored topics like Confidential Computing, Cloud Security Certification, and threat monitoring, laying the groundwork for enhancing the security of the European Computing Continuum.

Empowering End Users through Self-Sovereign Identity: Privacy and Security by Design Needs, 19 November 2024

This webinar, organised by the ECCO Community Group on Human Factors, described how Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) empowers individuals by enabling privacy-focused and user-controlled identity management. In an increasingly digital world, SSI offers a decentralised approach that eliminates the need for centralized authorities, fostering privacy and security by design. The session explored how SSI promotes trust and supports digital sovereignty across sectors like healthcare, IoT, and beyond. Through real-world applications, the webinar examined SSI's potential to address critical security challenges, ultimately empowering end users and strengthening digital ecosystems.
