The initiative comes as the European Union continues to expand investments in cybersecurity, digital resilience, and technological sovereignty amid growing cyber threats and geopolitical tensions.

A growing need for cybersecurity expertise

The ECCC plays a central role in coordinating the EU’s cybersecurity strategy and funding ecosystem. Through the Digital Europe and Horizon Europe programmes, the Centre supports projects ranging from advanced cybersecurity research to operational deployment of security technologies across member states.

To strengthen this effort, the ECCC is now seeking experts with backgrounds in cybersecurity research, innovation, technology deployment, and operational security.

Selected experts may contribute in several ways, including:

  • evaluating applications for EU funding
  • monitoring funded projects and contracts

The work is typically carried out on a contractual basis with periodic assignments and a commitment of a limited number of working days. They may involve remote evaluations, expert panels, project reviews, or advisory activities.

The two programmes for which the ECCC is looking for experts have distinct but complementary objectives. The Digital Europe Programme focuses primarily on deployment and operational capabilities. Meanwhile, Horizon Europe serves as the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme.

Who can apply?

The ECCC is looking for experienced professionals, with at least 5 years of work experience, from a wide range of cybersecurity fields. Potential candidates may include:

  • cybersecurity researchers and academics
  • security engineers and architects
  • CISOs and industry practitioners
  • consultants and auditors
  • experts in compliance, certification, or digital policy
  • specialists in critical infrastructure protection or advanced cyber technologies

A strong command of English, both written and spoken, is required, as evaluations and reporting activities are conducted in English. We strongly encourage applications from female cybersecurity professionals.

The opportunity is not a permanent EU position. Instead, it offers participation in a network of independent experts who contribute to shaping Europe’s cybersecurity landscape, and competitive remuneration for the work performed.

Please read the open call for expression of interest for experts and check the details on the Funding and Tenders portal.

How to apply?

Applicants are asked to register through the Experts portal and share their expert number directly via email after registration at evaluationsateccc [dot] europa [dot] eu (evaluations[at]eccc[dot]europa[dot]eu).
