AI Gigafactories initiative
As part of the amendment, the ECCC reallocated EUR 35 million for the support of the AI Gigafactories under the InvestAI initiative, which includes a new European fund of EUR 20 billion for AI gigafactories.
AI Gigafactories are large-scale facilities dedicated to the development and training of next-generation AI models containing trillions of parameters. To date, there are 19 AI Factories spanning 16 EU Member States.
Regional Cable Hubs
The updated Work Programme also adjusts investments to the most recent strategic priorities such as the EU Action Plan on Cable Security. For this reason, the ECCC will support the progressive establishment of Regional Cable Hubs for undersea cables, whose role will be to concretely enhance threats detection and operational security around these strategic infrastructures.
ECCC Executive Director Luca Tagliaretti said: “With this important update of the Work Programme, the ECCC is expanding its portfolio of large-scale strategic projects to include the development of dedicated cyber hubs for monitoring undersea cables. This action will set a new milestone in how the EU is strengthening the protection of its critical infrastructures, which are essential to the functioning of the single market and the wellbeing of European citizens.”
